Does anyone know where i can find 5mm addressable RGB LEDs? I want to remake my LED cube with FastLED
Flat hat WS2812D;5mm RGB WS2811 LEDs;RGB full color;with WS2811 IC built in

(from AliExpress Android)
Thanx man! That’ll work
@Jeremy_Spencer i looked for them but couldnt find them i thought i was gonna have to hand solder leads to WS2812B ICs then drop them in 3D printer shells lol
Mericana sales9@uniqueentech.com Website: http://www.worlduniqueen.com/ We have WS2812B IC strips
@Mericana_Lee i have WS2812B strips at home what i needed where the individual LEDs in a through hole package
Hi @Cristian_Martinez , I built an 8X8X8 cube using 8mm bullet shaped RGB LEDs with integrated WS2811 chips. I would recommend them instead of 5mm for a simple reason… The ratio of LED size vs solid wiring size makes the wiring frame just a bit less visible.
@JP_Roy and where did you happen to find these?
My first Arduino project was a 3x3x3 LED cube running off an Arduino nano v3. Its been siting on my desk over a year now. But i want to make something much much greater. So an 8x8x8 would do for now to share a shelf with my plasma ball. With some distance between them ofcourse
on Aliexpress just search for 8mm RGB LED with WS2811 many vendors but maybe just one manufacturer… Not 2 sure…
Alright thanx man
itll be a while i still have like 10 projects on hold im working on lol
Another suggestion… I built my cube around the Teensy 3.1 with the OCTOWS2811 adaptor and it is incredibly fast. I am able to update the whole cube (512 leds) somewhere around 400 fps which is the most you should do with the WS2811/WS2812 types.
As a bonus, if you go that route I can send you my latest collection of animations for my cube that you can simply just plug-in !!
@JP_Roy that would be amazing if you could man!
OK one more comment here… one key aspect of a cube construction is a good jig for LED alignement. Here’s a very very short video I made of my cube assembly. Hope that can help…
Dude i measured out a grid on a 2x4 piece of wood and drilled holes for the LEDs to sit in while i soldered them. 8x8x8x is definitely too big for a 2x4 so i appreciate the info
I’m pretty sure that Ray Wu also does the 8mm version. If not Rita does
I have yet to buy stuff from Aliexpress. But no worries its gonna happen lol
I have seen these with free shipping, but i didn’t have time to look for them. Sorry
