Does anyone know where I can get a replacement insulator sock for a Printrbot Simple Metal? An alternative to the sock would be fine as well. I can’t seem to find one online and PrintrBot is out of stock.
Thanks!

I am assuming you are assuming taking about the red insulator on the ubis hot end
Seems to be Automotive red tube. I tried one and the seller sent me the wrong one so I can’t say for sure.
@Camerin_hahn Yes, that’s the one
I would suggest you try “self fusing silicone tape”. You can get it at most home improvement and hardware stores for a decent price and most brands are rated above 250C.
I can’t find any insulated self infusing tape in my area. I’ll have to dig around the stores more I suppose.
They’re called fire sleeve flame shield.
@Kyle_Elliott a lot of times they hide it in the plumbing area… People often use it to seal leaky pipes. Either that or by the electrical area.
@Eclsnowman I saw the tape but it didn’t say insulated. I’ll check again.
The standard self-fusing stuff isn’t insulated, but you could give it a try anyway, maybe with something heat-resistant under it.
Fire Sleeve Flame Shield looks very similar. What size do we need?
I use self-fusing tape on my J-heads and it works well as an insulator, but doesn’t last forever. I’ve already had one split and come off, pulling the thermistor out.
Check around for a shop that rewinds industrial electric motors. The silicone / fiberglass sleeve is commonly used.
I ended up cleaning out the one I already had. I hadn’t tightened the hotend tip enough and filament oozed out and basically filled up the inside of the sock.
All good now tough. Thanks
@Kyle_Elliott That is what I ended up doing to.
