Does anyone know why my reprap prusa i3 won’t heat up? The bed nor the extruder will heat up any hotter than the temperature of the room its in when I hit the “preheat bed/pla” button or the “print from sd card” button and it says heating on the LED. I’m new to 3d printing so any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Are you putting enough current into the machine? What does your firmware configuration look like?
I had heat bed issues with the i3 Prusa I got in December. Your problem may be different because you mentioned the preheat function and I see you are using the LCD. According to the I3 Build Cheat Sheet that came with my printer, “If you are using a LCD to control your printer please keep in mind there is a programming flaw in all merlin software when using the preheat function, both heaters start at the sme time causing the ramps board connections (green connector) to overheat and melt. It is best to use the SD card function, pick your file and heat up will start like it should.”
- Double check that the temperature sensors are connected at the correct label placed.
- Double check that the current powering cables for the extruder heater and the hotbed are connected to the proper connector. I reversed it once by mistake and the ramp was overheating as described before.
- Check the hotbed cable. Mine was desoldered after a long printing because the cable was touching the X motor. I’ve resoldered it and it’s now protected with the provided plastic cable.
- You can make some tests with Cura or Repetier.
@Sandra_James The RAMPS connectors are only going to melt in that instance if they’re not properly rated for the load.
