Doing a project at school where we are building some 3d printers for students

Doing a project at school where we are building some 3d printers for students to learn and develop with. The key is getting cost down on components. I have already found all parts for linear motion, hotends will most likely be either e3d v6 lites or ubis all metals, and definitely a ramps for affordability. The component which I keep finding as quite expensive is steppers.

Can anyone suggest a seller that has steppers for less than $9 each?? We are most likely going to order around 30-50 of them. They don’t have to be the highest quality but just to get the job done. They are for a budget style printer to learn on like I said. Looking for nema 17’s.

Thanks,
Griffin

RobotDigg but the shipping is expensive. At those volumes it’ll even out.

Also stepperonline. They ship some stuff from the U.S. if that’s where you’re at. Ask them about volume discount.

Search Aliexpress and sort by price. A quick look saw several right around $5. I didn’t check quantity at that price…

+1 for AliExpress. I’ve bought several steppers and other components from there. You can find steppers pretty cheap in small lots, and if you contact the seller, you can probably negotiate an even better deal (be a tough negotiator; give a dream price offer, and work from there).

+1 on what @Carlton_Dodd said - for the quantity you want, negotiate hard. They may also come in “case” lots and you could get a better price if you just bought a full or half case (36, 50, etc…). Shipping cost is another place to negotiate - you’re buying so many, push for free shipping.

May as well cut straight to the sellers on Alibaba then. Ningbo GetWell Motor and LDO Motor (LDO is high quality, may be more expensive). Contact, get quote. Shipping will be over $100.

Where are you at? I’d love to give some free stuff and give you a deal on some other stuff. I can sell you some great steppers for cheap. Let’s chat. Love to help kids learn!! I have some free returned hotends set aside for something like this.

I helped Cam Watt do something like this.
Brook

In Atlanta @Brook_Drumm . Sounds great!!! Ill shoot you an email. Still brook(at)http://printrbot.com?

@Brook_Drumm Still using Kysans? They’re good motors, I used them on the first printer I built because they worked great on a Pb Plus I was “learning on” at the time.

I have s bunch of good ateliers of an odd size…, can’t ship bots w them but can pass them on at cost or less

Yes: brook@

Mostly using Kysan motors… Also found a Chinese company selling smaller motors for $6.50 delivered. Feathering those into the Play model.
