Duet WiFi beta board in my Tesseract Delta
Just got it all hooked up, will post print pics when I get it dialed in.
Yes, it’s a rat’s nest, that’s what happens when you switch control boards repeatedly and consequently never shorten up the wiring runs.
ARM M4F processor (faster than the M3s in Due and Smoothie v1), runs RepRapFirmware (which is very nice), uses super-fancy SPI-controlled TMC2660 drivers, and has an onboard ESP8266 for wifi. Obviously I also had to hook up a PanelDue for sweet touchscreen action.
I like that the built-in web interface does most of what OctoPrint does. (No slicing, camera support is less clean, but it does all the machine control and file upload stuff.) Avoids USB streaming processor load and frees up an OctoPi to move to another printer.
Have you heard of? “WIRE MANAGEMENT”???!!!
Looking good. I was just over at Jetguy’s and he was showing me his beta board also but didn’t have it connected to a printer yet. How are the new drivers? I have one on order for the first shipment.
@Scottie_D369 it’s deliberate, believe it or not. I keep swapping boards in this printer so I need extra wire length. Extra wire length means coiling or bundling the pigtails. Coils of wire emit and accept noise – laying them neatly together could cause cross-talk. The messy bundles let me have extra wire length without worrying about noise issues. I’ll clean it up eventually, but not for beta board testing.
@James_Armstrong when I first tried homing the printer, I didn’t even realize it was moving because I couldn’t hear anything. I’m using dampers AND the drivers in 1/16 stepping plus 1/256 interpolation mode. Haven’t tried printing yet though.
Duet wifi… Waiting for some videos while printing.
I’ll post printing videos, just have to get probe height and temps calibrated. Those don’t directly translate from Repetier. (Ok, I’ll be honest, I was using the wrong thermistor table with Repetier. Otherwise that should be the same. But the probe trigger height behavior is legit different with the dIR probe I’m using.)
I echo Ryan’s comments about the noise levels. With the fans off you can barely hear the steppers at all in 16X + interpolation mode. It’s noticeable now how shockingly loud retraction is on the Wades extruder I’ve been using for years.
I love the Duet WiFi. The web interface and PanelDue are both awesome in their own right but nothing you couldn’t have before. The steppers being silent and the whole thing being wrapped up in a neat package with WiFi on top make the experience so pleasant compared with anything else I’ve used so far.

Completely agree, across the board it’s a pleasant and low-friction user experience.
