I’ve worked on upgrading my robotics team’s @Printrbot Simple Metal over the course of the last couple of months. Here are the final results.
Upgrades:
–Octoprint Wifi control (built into power supply)
–E3D Volcano Hotend w/ 0.6mm Nozzle
–Improved Cable Management
–External MOSFET board for 150W Heat Bed (still waiting for it)
–LCD-interface slides in on DB15 connector
–Improved part cooling using centrifugal blower fan
–Emergency stop button for “oh crap” moments
–Minor Firmware tweaks for LCD interface, bed probe points, and automatic SD card detect

Really well done! How’s the estop wired in to PSU?

Nice rig, well laid out. :), nice updates.

@Mike_DiMare , It’s a little bit sketcky–drilled a hole into the side of the PSU and connected the NC terminal of the E-stop to the PS_ON pin; I also deburred the sheet metal and routed the wires away from the mains. The Pi can also turn the printer on an off

I need a bigger ‘Oh Shit’ button for my 3… trying to locate the tactile switch on the board when things are going wrong can be a challenge. I like it.

That blower design is awesome. Shame you lost it. I thought Dropbox made backups online?

Looks great!

Agree on the blower. Time to reverse engineer. The plate where the axial fan was is a great place to stick some LEDs. Stay tuned.

Did some digging and found some of the files! Will post a GrabCAD link when everything is set up
