EndStop causes crashes

Hi All, I’m wiring up my new big Delta 3D Printer, and I now have the steppers working but when they hit the end stop it causes the serial port to disconnect and sometimes even crashes my macbook which I’m running it with! I’m using geeetech mechanical end stops, which I can’t find any documentation regarding pin assignments. Could my problem be incorrect wiring or something else, and does anyone know the correct pin assignment for these endstops? Cheers Jason

This is usually caused by the switch being wired to gnd and +5v, so when the switch triggers it shorts the power supply, causing your crash.

this is exactly my problem. I have a 24v psu and 5v @ endstops. should I wire in a resistor or is there a better option?
thanks.

There is no reason to wire resistors.

Your PSU should be irrelevant to your endstops. If your endstops are 5V that is fine with Smoothie.

Make sure you wire them as NC ( see the 3D printer guide ).

Cheers.

Im brand new at this but may be able to help. Also take a look at the documentation on this site regarding end stop wiring. Use the NC (normally closed) and C (common) pins on the limit switches and wire signal on the smoothie board to C on the switch and Ground to NC. With this configuration, the standard config settings in config.txt should work.

My Mac will she down immediately sometimes if I hit reset without unmounting the drive (right click > eject). It sounds like your board may be reseting or shutting down causing the smooth board to be disconnected without properly ejecting.

Hi, Thanks for that, I guess I’m looking for what the pin assignment is for this particular endstop so I can check I have it wired right.
Cheers

Check your config against the sample delta config in the git repo.

https://github.com/Smoothieware/Smoothieware/blob/edge/ConfigSamples/Smoothieboard.delta/config « for smoothieboard.

and

https://github.com/Smoothieware/Smoothieware/blob/edge/ConfigSamples/AzteegX5Mini.delta/config if you are using an AzteegX5.
