Epic new Mermaid Glimmer video – shot last summer in Mexico, far from soldering irons and repair tools, and FINALLY finished editing today. I tried to focus on the shots where the tail is mostly working!

Wait… did you make that mermaid costume? Long story, but my wife is a fan of all things rainbow (partly why I do all the LED stuff), and she has a bunch of friends in the Raleigh, NC area that do a bunch of Mermaid cosplay. So I’ve seen what I think is that same LED tail in some videos and the Fire Pixie website before. But since we couldn’t find any more details about the tail, we just assumed it was a commissioned piece or something. All the more impressive if you also built it yourself! I’d just love to know how you manage to make it all waterproof…
Yeah, that was me…as far as I know this is the only led swimming tail in existence. Making it waterproof was incredibly challenging… It’s still not perfect and tends to break if I swim down below about 8 feet deep. Honestly this was a really dumb idea, but sometimes those do turn out something unique. :).
And I really need to do a documentary style video about making this tail. But I’m sort if too excited about making other new stuff.

Not a dumb idea, just one’s that needs more waterproofing. Just impressive that you got it to work at all. I made some LED pants a couple years ago and that was a challenge in itself (they had over 500 LEDs, so power was the problem).
And yes, a making of video would be awesome. But I totally understand the desire to work on newer stuff It’s still a challenge for me to document what I’m doing at all, but these days it seems important, so I try.
