Activated ethernet with ip_address set to “auto”. Which worked in some way, the panel displayed IP 0.0.32.0, but I was unable to access smoothieboard. Then I tried a static IP which was set up in the Fritzbox router using the smoothieboard’s MAC address, that didn’t work. Since then the board refuses to connect “No network detected” (port connector’s green and yellow LEDs are blinking like “long - short - long - short - long -long -short”). I tried both, network.ip_address set to “auto” and static IP. Double checked the cable, rebooted the router as well. What am I doing wrong?

Typical stupid error: at the "network.mac_override " line I only looked at the xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx but didn’t notice the missing hash at the beginning.
