Evaluating Solvespace for my 3d designs.

Evaluating Solvespace for my 3d designs. The interface looks archaic but the program works very smooth so far. Solvespace is a parametric CAD program much like FreeCAD but is much more lightweight and probably more stable than FreeCAD.

I’ve been using it for lasercutting. Excellent program. Limited for detailed 3d work due to lack of fillets/chamfers/lofts etc. But its simplicity makes up a lot for its feature set.

will be cool to hear your thoughts about this soon :slight_smile:

@Alexander_Gryson
And if I understand the developers correctly these won’t be implemented any time soon. For many of my projects however I can work around these limitations.

@Luis_Diaz
I will, but my preliminary thoughts are that the constraint solver is excellent and assembly is, compared to FreeCAD, really easy.

True @Eric_Buijs , it would apparently require a very heavy rewrite of some parts. (If I understood correctly).

I’ve been using fusion 360 and love it, even though it’s not open source.

@Justin_Nesselrotte My mac move slow when using fusion 360, so I’m not able to desing anything :frowning:

That sucks. I don’t like it as much on my Windows computer but it runs really well on the Mac I use.

@Justin_Nesselrotte
I’ve read the license agreement and I think I’ll pass :smiley: http://download.autodesk.com/us/FY17/Suites/LSA/en-US/lsa.html.

@Eric_Buijs having not fully read it, I’m curious as to what part do you object to.

@Justin_Nesselrotte If your a user of Autodesk products I think you should. The privacy section (4.1) states so much that you agree that Autdesk (and it’s resellers) can obtain all kinds of user information and share it freely with third parties. The term “wihout limitation” can be found multiple times in this section.

In section 1.2.1 the user agrees to upgrade to the new version within 120 days and delete the previous version. Not all upgrades are improvements. In fact sometimes it’s better to run an older version (e.g. on older hardware). Most open source products that I know enable me to install older versions and I have used this option more than once. (on http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/ you’ll find many examples). So I like the software that I use to have this option.

These are not the only restrtictions in the license agreement. In fact it’s full with all kinds of restrictions for the user. But these were most important to me.
