Everyone deserves a 3D printed name plate...

Everyone deserves a 3D printed name plate… especially a 3D Printing club!

could you do my name?? Mjjacobs97?

Nicely done. Lucky it doesn’t have a lower case ‘i’ in the name

@Matthew_Kyle_Jacobs super easy to do. Have you picked a 3d modeling tool yet?

ummm no can you explain that…i am unfamiliar with 3D printing…all i know is that it is a very intersting thing.

@Matthew_Kyle_Jacobs Okay, I don’t know how simple I can make this. A 3d modeling tool is like paint but in 3d. I’d say photoshop, but photoshop does 3d now. You make things in 3d so they can be made. I’m doing a video series about using blender so you can follow me for that.

Ok, i followed you, i am just curious if you can make my name? Mjjacobs97. same color and design as the one above.

I use Autodesk 123D Designer - get that and give it a go! It’s really easy to get text modeled - the hard part is making it print friendly and then getting it printed. Once you have a printable model (where things like the dots on the lower case J are not hanging in mid air), you can send the model to http://shapeways.com and have it printed for you at a pretty low cost in many different materials.

I have a future video about text in blender. I’ll be sure to mention you in the video. If you can wait a few weeks I’ll do yours then, but I expect by then you can make it yourself.

Nah…I’ll just wait for you!! Thanks!!!

Is autodesk free??

123D Designer, Tinkercad, and Blender are all free. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. Blender does everything including precise and organic shapes, text, etc, but is tough to get started with. 123Designer and Tinkercad are easier to use but don’t do organic as well.

@Matthew_Kyle_Jacobs Well, if you’re waiting for my video you’d better subscribe to MrJoeSays on youtube so you’ll know when that video comes out. Chances are I ain’t coming back here to tell you about it.
