Exciting times, the post man has been!
I’m building a Hypercube http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1752766
I’m also building an hypercube, recycling parts from my smartrapcore alu, and it’s not very difficult to build. I have one question: did you get the bronze bushing or did you go with another type of bearings
What was you mechanical BOM cost, before shipping?
@Emanuele_Melzi I do have some of the bronze bushings however I found these steel PTFE lined bushings http://www.wychbearings.co.uk/p1020l10_bush.html and they are pretty accurate dimensionally and slide on the anodised aluminium perfectly.
Sounds interesting. First time hearing about “hypercube” for the first time.
@Jason_McMullan ha I have no idea the total cost I’ve not worked it out. The cost of the frame was about £50 for the 2020 aluminium extrusion cut to length for me. What I have been waiting for are the corner brackets and t nuts. I had to order these from china as for some reasons they are silly prices in the U.K. And they were around £16. The steel rails were also from china just a few £ but they are very slightly bent. So I will probably order some precision shafts from these guys http://www.strongbar.co.uk/ just waiting for the quote.
@Richard_McKenna ok, i’ll order them if the ones that i created don’t work. I created them using a 12mm bronze tube and then i drilled a bigger hole using a lathe. They are not very precise, but they work if i slide them on the aluminium rod.
@Emanuele_Melzi nice would love to see some photos of your build if you have any. I’ve been putting the frame together today. I’ll post some more photos here when I’ve done a bit more. Mainly waiting on the printed parts to finish now.
@Richard_McKenna Ok, I’m still waiting for the bearings and the hotend to arrive, because the one I have is an e3d v5 that I think is a clone, i don’t know because it arrived with the smartrapcore alu kit. Anyways, I will post the photos today.
Here it is. I left the previous z axis design because the smartrapcore alu wasn’t reliable enough to print all the z axis pieces, but when i finish the hypercube i’ll be printing themmissing/deleted image from Google+

@Emanuele_Melzi nice. I like the corner brackets. I bet they were a lot easier to source than the cast aluminium ones. Yeah, I’m printing all the bits on a cheap Chinese prusa i3 from eBay. But I replaced the threaded rods on the z axis with some real lead screws and put a genuine e3d v6 and titan extruder in a Bowden config and I’m actually getting pretty good prints from it. All be it somewhat slow
