Extrusion problem…Ultimaker Original
No flow with or without the nozzle. I just heated to 250 and when passing a paperclip up through the heating block there appears to be filament clogged between the top of the heater block and where you are able to see the filament in the tube.

This started with the filament that came with the printer…but I have had no issues and had almost used the entire spool. I switch to a different type of filament, but no joy there.

  1. How can I get this cleaned out?
  2. What is happening to cause this? Has it just been building up until it became plugged over hour of printing, or is there something that may have changed that I need to fix?

Thanks for the help, I have several students needing prints by Monday and I hope there is a way to get it working today.

Update…I let it cool down and again used the paperclip. This time, I was able to push the plugged filament (about 2cm in length) up into the bowden tube.
When everything cools I will try passing filament up through the heating block and hopefully push the plug out of the other end of the tube.

So maybe I’ll get the students prints done but I definitely am interested in ways to prevent this if possible.

Glad it’s working for you!

I had this happen to me this week with my Printrbot Simple. A failed print caused a clog at the top of the extruder, which would neither melt nor move.

Solution: I switched everything off, then disassembling the top of the extruder head so I could grab the (cooled!) plastic with pliers and remove it. Printed well thereafter.
