What kind of project do you have in mind?

I know mark. What I mean is to somehow control a digital led strip with a light mixer or midi controller through a specific software or something like that.

Yep- this can be done. Hardware-wise, you’d want to put a DMX shield (or a midi connector) on the Arduino and send data to it.
I’d say that many more people use a PC/Mac with a USB cable running to the Arduino, and drive serial data to it.
The nicest product for doing that is the Fadecandy board, which can take input from all kinds of sources, and can directly drive lots of WS2811 pixels. http://www.adafruit.com/products/1689
