ey people!

I wanted to ask in the group if there was anybody experimenting with Wemos.

I would really like to use a Wemos D1 (https://www.wemos.cc/product/d1.html) to run program, and instead of writing a pin, sending the information of this pin vie wifi to several Wemos D1 mini (https://www.wemos.cc/product/d1-mini.html)

I havent yet done anything via wifi, so before getting into it wanted to ask if there is somebody with some knowledge from which I can grab myself.

I’ve not done this, but there’s lots of discussion on one WeMos board controlling a number of others in the WeMos forums…
Good luck

wemos forum! didnt think about a wemos forum!

Let us know how you get on…

@Leo_Bettinelli Hey Leo, I have done exactly that on a large project recently https://www.instagram.com/p/BPoH4K8lW3o/ I used 10 x Wemos D1Mini boards. Each to control 100 pixel of WS2801 strands. There was a central controller that sent data to all 10 Nodes via UDP Multicast. Worked pretty well. I didn’t use FastLED to drive the Pixels however.

@Leon_Yuhanov , that looks amazing, would you be able to share the communication portion of your code?

I had one. Used it for a couple of hours. Died. I havent the slightest idea what went wrong. Probably a cheap chinese knockoff lol

@Leon_Yuhanov . as jeremy says, it would be really nice to see this code. your work does look really nice!

@Jeremy_Spencer @Leo_Bettinelli I will see what i can share publicly, give me a day or so

@Leo_Bettinelli @Jeremy_Spencer Hey guys have a look at the following https://github.com/leonyuhanov/esp8266_ws2801_node it has the Node code but i had to leave out all the server code apart from the basic send commands. Feel free to ask any Qs. I had 10 of these nodes connected to a WIFI Router, and was getting pretty good results at around 25-20 frames per second. I had issues getting it to run faster than that(Hit a wall with the ESP8266 UDP performance) Note that I specifically use Multicast here because broadcast had tons of packet loss

Thanks @Leon_Yuhanov

Maybe i should give the Wemos D1 boards another try. I wanna have some WiFi connected lights at home  i threw some at my closet but theyre analog LEDs so not as cool

Thanks +Leon Yuhanov! I am away from home but will check it out as soon as I am back!
