I am looking at building a cnc controller for a special purpose CNC milling machine, and I would love to use Smoothie for this job, but I need to be able to feedhold and resume quite often during a program. Can anyone tell me if Smoothie can do this well without loosing steps i.e. de-accelerate down to stop and the accelerate up again on a resume.

I think the play/pause button should do that job.
But I’m not sure if it does decelerate and accelerate nicely!?
According to: arthurwolf.github.io / SmoothieContest -> “Add slow pause” it does not (not yet).
That’s currently implemented, look at the bottom of : http://smoothieware.org/switch for example.
