Fiddled with PTFE Plumbers tape…interesting, but not the way to a long-term design. It slid well enough, curiously, up until I added PTFE grease, then everything got all bound up.
I suspect it would slide well enough until dust and crud built up on the sliders…you’d probably get a few weeks use out of it before needing to fiddle with it again.
