Final large HQ print test of my CoreXY printer build
Well, I got lucky & walked into my studio just as the print was finishing. The end gcode in S3D was still the default Replicator 1 code, which tells the print bed to go to a height of 6" when the print is done. A Problem for a 12" print. You can see where the finger got pushed up into the hot nozzle. Oh well, otherwise a perfect print. Gcode is fixed now, so that won’t happen again.

Print a thimble for that finger.
Wow, there is a lot of detail in that print.
Awesome print, awesome printer… Wow!
So what were the print settings for this?
Sliced with Simplify3D @ 87 micron, 50mm/sec print speed, 100 mm/sec travel. Extrusion multiplier = 0.95
it was printed at 5% infill with 3 shells, took a whopping 67 hrs to print!
I’m very impressed with the quality!
Hi Mark - the hotend/extruder assembly is from the Makerbot Rep 1/2. The design is basically Rep 1 (clone) electronics with the CoreXY motion system (uses Sailfish Firmware CXY variant). A few people are building them on the 3DPT&T google group - I followed their lead but went with a much taller build volume & had to re-think the z axis a bit to get it all to work
Hah! It’s not the 5th gen extruder, its the older one from the 3rd & 4th gens - those are pretty reliable if they are all metal (clones have the PTFE tubing that makes them less so from what I understand). My Rep2 has close to 4000 hrs on it without a clog
Nice. I gather you might have since double checked your settings in the Scripts section, under “Ending G-Code”?
MK7 extruder can do good work, but it helps to have the upgrades - the better spring lever idler vs. the original Delrin plunger.
Yes, it was the end Gcode - fixed now.
And yes, I should have mentioned it’s an upgraded mk8 extruder (3rd party aluminum filament arm and print carriage). I basically have just about every useful mod/upgrade on my Rep2 & I wanted to match the extruder setup on this printer to control the variables.
