Finalized the mechanics for my next printer,

Finalized the mechanics for my next printer, a JohnBot derivative with a side tower designed by a close friend.
Changes from his machine is the heated bed: 200x300 on this machine and my experimental magnetic mount for different hotends / El Cheapo laser cutter.

My parts are still not optimized, cable chains will be incorporated when the electronics is mounted and connected. Will be printing soon!

I’m curious, I see what appears to be linear bearings but not the steel rods. Are you sliding on Delrin?

Steel rods and linear beatings all the way.

why a side tower? it looks like it’s going to require twice the X foot print and be more wobbly than a design where the X carriage is held from both ends.

It’s built on the JohnBot base, inspired by the PrintrBot Simple XL.

Yes I’m convinced that a two tower solution is more stable as the y-axis tend to tilt down when it is stretched to the limit, more if you use the original filament driver on top of the hotend, less if you - like me - use a bowden setup.

If you discard the bottom plate the footprint is only 180mm wide and 350mm deep, though you probably need wider legs to handle the loads from the wide build plate I decided to use.

@Bjorn_Ringholm really nice looking build! How’s it print?

WHAT ARE USE TO MACHINE

@Wing_Wong , not printing yet, final electrical parts supposed to arrive today. May be printing before we leave for Christmas celebrations, I’ll update.

+MD SAMEER ASKED ??? Please elaborate.

@Bjorn_Ringholm Cool. Looking forward to seeing it in action! Though I suspect adding 2 right angle braces to brace in the x and y direction will probably help. Damn… now I want to build a PVC pipe structure printrbot style printer…

@Wing_Wong , the white tubes are actually a cheap metal closet rod: Ø 24,5 mm, 905 mm long (cut in half).

oh cool! Okay, so not PVC tubes. ~lol~

After a long day of testing and changing the firmware all three axis move correctly and all end stops including the inductive sensor are working.

No more before Christmas leave as I will be out of town at least a week…
