Finally able to print ABS without warping now that I put my printer into an old bar fridge. Good insulation but really hard to work on.

No that’s clever;-) well done

The funniest thing is that the plastic in the fridge is also abs plastic.

Do you have a thermometer display on that? I would worry a little about overheating.

Thats an intense setup

Cooling Chamber.

And when you’re printing PLA with extreme overhangs you just switch on the fridge? :wink:

This is Schrödinger’s printer now… The print has both failed and turned into a giant mess, and is perfectly happy until you open the door

Fun fact, PLA in a very cold environment warps like crazy. Room temp just happens to be the proper “heated chamber” for it to minimize warping.

I bet it’s sound dampening too :slight_smile: nice

Cool! You could also look at this as protection from fire, with the door closed any fire that started would probably die due to lack of oxygen.

@Camerin_hahn
Yeah. That is true. I should cut a window in the front and add some lights.

Now its time for some time lapse prints lol

If it still cools, you could set it to kick on after the heaters turn off to chill the support for easy removal.

Print a couple of beers in there :slight_smile:

@Ryan_Carlyle
I actually considered using an oven where I could set the oven temp to 60 degrees C. Could not find one where the printer fitted though. It does not seem to get that hot. The hot end gets to around 50 degrees C when the heat bed has finished.

Wow Kitchen is a very dangerous territory to invade…

Why did you do that

Because the plastic ABS will warp without an enclosure.

It works. I have had a lot of successful prints in the last few weeks.

I’ve actually done something similar with my Rostock Max v2, gutted a bit taller of a fridge and made a separating layer for electronics and hot side of the chamber. Something that worries me a little bit is that the insulating foam in the walls of the fridge is a tad flammable, so that’s something to look out for.
