Finally decided to get a Prusa to start playing with printing, this is how the frame arrived from my Aliexpress order
everything else looks OK but stupid location of placing the breakable frame at the top of the box. Super glue has fixed it perfectly though.
Never understood why everybody has to cut their logos and names into the bridge at the top. Seem like proof it weakens the part to me.
Today Just picked up my prusa i3 kit from local DIYtechshop in Vancouver WA $400
Great family run business. AL metal square frame
@Richard_Turnock That’s an awesome price!
Acrylic is a such a poor structural material, I don’t understand why folks keep insisting on using it…
Whole i3 kit with 2 free reels of Pla for a grand total of US $349 + $90 delivery all the way from China to New Zealand arrived in 4 days (after 8 day wait for them to make the kit I guess) so an OK price apart from the breakage stuffup
I’d buy from US companies if more of them didn’t charge ridiculous delivery charges (so many on eBay have for example a $100 product with a $150 delivery fee to NZ) but I guess US can’t beat an export/delivery system from China that’s subsidized by the government
I do not recommended acrylic. The superglue will not hold it together. Get a new piece from the seller or better yet, get an aluminum or wood frame. Acrylic does not handle stress well. That damage is only a precursor to the entire kit in 6 months.
@Richard_Turnock , what shop? I’m down in Tigard and I’d love to support a local business.
@Matthew_Satterlee
The website is http://shop.diytechshop.com
The company is called DIYtechshop
Van is the father, his wife Kimberly and their two sons work there.
@Hamish_Robinson
Check them out they sell all over the world.
Acrylic is easy to handle and very cheap to cut, and it looks very nice, but it is very brittle. They really should be water jet or laser cut aluminum.
@Matthew_Satterlee However, they are probably going to increase their price because in September they are switching to the $80 E3Dv6 hot end instead of their home made “Crayon” hot end. One Aluminum frame piece with threaded rods. Seems to be going together well.
Well, I already have an E3Dv6 (which has been totally worth it) … I was thinking about asking them if they would sell a partial kit so that I could re-use the electronics from my Simple.
@Matthew_Satterlee
Well, I am struggling a little with building the i3x from DIYtechshop but they are willing to work with me. I live less than an hour away, went over there to pick up my printer and parts, and talked with them for awhile.
Nice family. Van is interesting guy to talk with.
I suggest calling and talking to Kimberly, his wife, and maybe Van.
They try to respond to emails, but they are very busy, small group running a lot of kits out the door daily.
I might need to go over there again and get some replacement parts.
They might sell you a kit in August that is one of the last before they start adding the E3Dv6 hot end. The kit comes with Mega2560/Ramps1.4 and stepper drivers. I have used both the Printrboard on my simple and on a 3DR Simple (delta style). I am probably going to end up with a spare Printrboard just because I like the mega2560/ramps1.4 and will probably use that, until I start experimenting with Azteeg or another improved PCB.
@Matthew_Satterlee Wait, if you have a E3Dv6 to use on a printer then OK to order a kit from them that does not have it…but reading your note again…maybe you are already using the E3Dv6 and you have the spare Printrboard you want to use…call them, they might work with you. Tell them you corresponded with me…?
Will do @Richard_Turnock
