Finally got around to compiling CAD files for my machine I finished 10 months earlier (whoops). This was the Frankenbot build made from parts provided by @Brook_Drumm , and others.
Feel free to check the out the design here: https://grabcad.com/library/3d-printer-design-stepup-1
@Jonathan_Knirsch , definitely a drawback; the focus on the build was to minimize the quantity and complexity of the parts I would have to machine, and as a result, the gantry is a lot larger than it could be
Looks sturdy. The frame is reminiscent of a Lulzbot but that could just be my mind connecting the black aluminum extrusions and LCD placement. Why go with Repetier firmware instead of Marlin? And whats the build volume?
@Adam_Steinmark , I was actually thinking of the Lulzbot mini when I designed it, nice eye
In terms of build volume, it’s relatively small at around 210mm cubed. I mainly chose Repetier because I knew I was gonna modify the firmware a little bit and the code base is SOOOO much more organized than marlin; some of the motion control and temperature regulation might not be as nice though.
Full details of the build are at https://plus.google.com/113675942849856761371/posts/TsnVQV3WoN5?iem=4&gpawv=1&hl=en-US
210mm is pretty good. I’d be interested in seeing some print results and maybe making one running smoothie.
Where did you get the aluminum extrusion?
@Alexander_Pritchard , they’re HSF5 Series extrusions from Misumi (20mm) for everything but the 20x80mm extrusions, which are Openbuilds (just for the black colors)
@Adam_Steinmark , I can send you some pics of sample prints sometime soon and check them out; I’m very satisfied with the print quality at least
That would be awesome thanks
