Finally got around to moving my printer.

Finally got around to moving my printer. I bought a cheap table from ikea $10 and laser cut a spool holder system for the back with 550mm 1in pvc. Needs to be painted but I love how it looks/works.

This is the franken-printrbot right?

@ThantiK yup! One of the 34 we are building at my school. Other ones not done yet but will be be same design

That’s a good table for $10. At Home Depot that just gets me the MDF for the surface, not even the 2x4’s for the frame.
And wouldn’t be complete without a canister of hairspray close by. Looks good!

FWIW, if you’re not burning through the filament quickly, you may want to keep it stored in a sealed container with some desiccant.

I used to be kind of skeptical of this as I’d been to shops that had all kinds of filament out in the open. But I did start seeing poor print quality over time so started storing in a sealed container. I was amazed at how much water was absorbed by the desiccant, and I’m in a low humidity environment.

@Tim_Sills I go through about a kilo a week with 3D hubs right now. I’m terrible with not taking care of my filament. I’ve never sealed it in a year and a quarter but I still have my very first roll and printed with it the other day. Seemed fine but you are right I need to store some. I just shoved some rolls on there to make sure it could take the force.

Do you have a direct drive or bowden, do you have issues with recoil with the filiment going over that distance

@Grady_Parker its a direct drive setup. I have had no issues with it. Haven’t run it a lot how it currently is but it isn’t that much different in terms of filament placement to how it was before. I used to have a spool holder under the back side of the table.

You may enjoy on dog those 12mm bar too loops to keep your filament path tidy :wink:

Looks awesome. Good job!
Brook

Tip: These tables from IKEA (we have about four of them, EU version) are not rigid enough for the base of the printer (hollow, very light structure). You will face X/Y resonances after some time. At least mount some additional corner braces between legs and plate.

@Tinkering_On_Steroid my thought exactly

@Tinkering_On_Steroid not sure what you mean. Are you talking about counteracting sag?
