Finally got my JTechphotonics 2.8W laser kit setup and working.

Cool Matt!! That would be great!! If you do the test please let me know… I got a cheapo laser on eBay all picked out

Where did you get the mount? I totally want to build an add-on laser without removing my spindle.

I ordered that mount on eBay just type in 52mm spindle mount. I drilled two small holes in the mount for the laser. I put thermal past in between the laser and the mount and it acts like a huge heat sink keeping my laser cool, works great! Although SMW 3D also sells a really nice spindle mount that I think could work as well.

Yeah, I have the SMW 3D mount already. I need to download that STL file they have and see if it can be modified to work with this mount and/or see if I need to tap another hole on my mount.

Cool, let me know how it turns out. I’m planning to build a dedicated 80w laser cutter engraver. Although I like the Jtech laser for small light type work. It isn’t really capable of doing the level of laser work I would like to do.

I haven’t even decided on what power I need yet. I should probably figure that our first. What will 80W cut? Metal?

How do you keep the laser clean when you use your spindle??

Well I honestly haven’t done much to protect it from the dust. I usually just blow it out and take a cotton swab and clean it. I haven’t noticed any significant amount of loss in power.
