Finally got my JTechphotonics 2.8W laser kit setup and working. Having a blast with this new feature and really excited about the potential. I’ve had pretty decent success using estlcam to operate the laser. I’am really impressed at this price point with how much I can do with estlcam, cnc milling and lasering! Here is a pic of my laser shield I just engraved.
By the way I’m running my Ox with TinyG and using chilipeppr to operate.
Nice!
Thanks @raykholo
Sure, which setting are you referring to, my TinyG hardware setting? I’m am running firmware version 20
Awesome!!
+Peter van der Walt will do Peter, sorry for the delay I’ll try to get it to @Toon_Nelissen1 tomorrow.
No thank you +Peter van der Walt! I’m glad to help the community in someway. Keep up the cool work at laserweb.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jay from JTech. His facility is close to me so I took a bunch of materials and we did some tests. Jay really knows what he is doing and builds a really nice solution.
I’ve been very happy with my laser. I have it bolted flush to my aluminum spindle bracket with some thermal paste. It acts like a huge heat sink and my laser is rarely even warm to the touch even after running it for hours. I don’t push the watts as high as it can go. I’m running it at around 1.5 amps which is about 1.8watts of laser power and it feels like plenty for what I’m doing.
+Peter van der Walt I know little about lasers and LaserWeb is new to me. I justed watched a video on youtube. Looking very interesting.
@Matt_Herrera What are you engraving? Are you cutting anything? I looked at them but have not pulled the trigger. (other projects) So any reflections (bad pun) you have would be great.
@Sami_Rahman I’ve been engraving mostly wood and Hydroflask water bottles. I have also engraved acrylic and did a test on leather. I haven’t used it much for cutting but I’ve cut paper, cardboard, and leather. I think depending on the projects you have in mind this can be a great option. It’s not a 40w laser so just keep in mind its limitations and what you are buying. For my current needs I’m pretty happy with it but I may purchase a standalone 40w laser in the future for more robust work.
Awesome add to the OX… I’m looking at adding a lasers to my OX for engraving purposes. I’ll check out Jtech’s ok laser kit
You may want to check out the L-cheapo laser as well. Many people seem very happy with it. @Todd_L
I will certainly look into the cheap stuff too. I certainly want a laser for engraving work, but do you think the 2.8W laser can cut foam for RC aircraft, like dollar tree foam?
@Todd_L how thick of foam are you referring to? It will cut foam easily but I’m sure with some thickness limitations. I’ve cut paper and leather with no problem.
+Peter van der Walt wow that thing is moving fast!!!
3/16 with paper on both sides… The stuff’s cheap too, a buck a sheet… I mill it currently with a 1 flute .04 but but a laser would be cool
Oh ya it would! With less mess too. I’m pretty sure it can handle that no problem. I have some 1/4" foam lying around the shop. Maybe I can do a test run for you. @Todd_L
