In the 70’s it was frequently used in car-toons, the rad and wild fantasy automotive musings of teens and young adults. The element of Nazi-ism was frequently but not homogeneously ignored. Some even called it the surfer’s cross, though my memory may fail me regarding the particulars. Reuse, recycle, repurpose - just like any word in language, a design is just a design until you give it meaning and context.

On the topic of swastikas, I was thinking that the symbol it was based on represented the cyclic nature of the seasons, for which Hitler messed up and flipped the image so that it “flowed” backwards.
