Finally started building my new printer. After three cartesian printers it’s time to build a delta!
The moving platform with the e3d-Hotend is already done.

Three e3d cooling fans?

@Jim_McIntosh There are some advantages and so me disadvantages. on the pro side: you can easily build a printer with a large print high, the symmetric design, a delta printer can typically move faster especially in z-direction. The drawbacks are the none linearity of the drive systems what could cause problems if you reach the other limits of the print area. Well for me its more a challenge, and certainly, deltas are much more fun to watch.

I like the looks of that, but isn’t that an awful lot of weight on the effector?

Some triangle shaped pieces to brace the hexagon and fill in the spaces to the sides of the heated bed may be a good idea. It would probably look nice too.

@NathanielStenzel Well it’s not that heavy as it looks. I need at least 2 fans. This are only 30mm fans they are quite lightweight. I will replace the fan screws with nylon once to save additional wight. The overall assembly is at the moment at 135 grams (with heat cartridge). But for a final conclusion it’s to early.

I think with that shape and design, you have a good chance to make it a heated enclosure. At any rate, the walls shown in the picture will help with ABS. I would suggest see through walls for the remaining 2 walls.

@NathanielStenzel Actually that is the plan. I’m thinking about an acrylic door. I’ve got some experience in hot bending acrylic plates years ago. But for now this is not top of my to do list.

I don’t know anything about 3D printing. But why don’t you just use pipes with a ring at the end to cool the part?
And cut down on weight and size

@Eddie_Palmer for PLA, cooling parts may be an idea, but a normal fan or a squirrel fan and a flexible tube would be better than a pipe.

I can see the flexible pipe working because you could put the piping in a cold place before it get the flexible pipe but the big problem would be the water you will make when the cold air meets the hot spot
