Finished printing my first high detail print on printrbot plus. Any advise. I’m using repetier with a print definition of .2. With a heated bed extruding pla at 208 c .
Dang, that a really nice point
Go for .15 and .1!! Compare the results. I think you will be amazed. Try a lighter infill too… Even .1 or 10% can yield stellar results. Don’t go too fast and try a big fan for extra awesome cooling. Some go nuts with two fans- one on each side. Post your results!
Looks good though I’m wondering what that band around the back of the head is from.
Definitely go for a smaller layer height than .2. I’ve gotten nice Yodas at .1 and .08mm. If you’ve got a smaller nozzle to try, that makes a nice difference too. It’s fun to print Yoda completely hollow, and he prints much faster that way.
@Brook_Drumm When I tried a higher definition like .1 I got little burs and it actually looked worse. I also had to restart about 3/4 through because the the “alu-struder” gets hot on long prints then the filament snaps and gets twisted around.
@Gunnar_Meyers you may need to lower you temperature for the smaller layers. If your thermistor is closer to your heating element than to the melt zone, you may be getting a hotter reading than what your melt zone is. When you are extruding faster for the thicker layers, the difference in temp between the melt zone and thermistor reading is large. When you are printing the thinner layers, the difference between the melt zone and your thermistor is smaller so your extrudite is hotter. At the finer resolution, turn down the temp until you can’t extrude, then bump back up 5 to 10 degrees, just make sure to clean out your extruder gear after you do this.
Just a theory, good luck
