FIRMWARE UNRESPONSIVE

Hello, I’ve been having this problem with my software “FIRMWARE UNRESPONSIVE”. It will work good for a couple of prints and then all of the sudden in the middle of a print it will stop and give me this message. It would not move or do anything else until I reset it and lose my print, time and material :frowning: I’m using Simplify3D. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening or what am I missing or doing wrong?

I’m having the same exact problem onli thing is I cant get any good print. I’m also using simplify3D. I get the same message printing from sd card or usb. Has anyone else had this problem or can point me to the right direction as to how to fix it?

Hi there just joined this forum because I saw this post
I have this same problem since purchasing symp 3d
i have a rumba board running a dedicated laptop .
tried everything contacted sym3d ,they suggested things like better usb cable, print off sd card
but i can print with slicer/pronterface no problems
i found that when i printed makerbots trex skull the jaw printed perfect, then the skull it also printed spot on
but when i printed the base on the first layer i would get firmware not responsive
it seems that long travel slow moves cause this
so i went into tools/firmware config/communication
changed serial cache size to 128 bytes
and communication time out to 30 secs
printing now as i type this ,and no problem

so i hope this helps

Hey amcron, is that change still working for you?
I’ve had another failure today, so I went ahead and changed it too. It is almost done printing and looks like it liked it.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi.

Yesterday I just finished upgrading to my new smoothie board. I am also running Simplify3d.

After printing a couple of small prints I tried one that would take 3-4 hours. I tried printing the same print three time and each time, at different points the firmware became unresponsive.

I will try the solution mentioned above and respond back on how that works.

I was also thinking that one could initiate the print using smoothieware console commands (print) and that would potentially eliminate simplify3d from the process.

Ok. Made the modifications to the comm Amcron suggested.

Printed the same print which failed 3 times on Sunday and it failed again today. Random position.

Did it work for any of the others that were having this issue??

Phil

From the simp3d comm window, I tried ‘play fileName’ (without the verbose option).

again the firmware froze about 90 mins in.

Next I will try to PuTTY in and do a ‘play’. That will definitely eliminate simp3d.

Phil

Tried with PuTTY.

play’d the same file on the sd card and it ran to over 56% as shown by the ‘progress’ command.

Then it failed :frowning:

This pretty much narrows it down to the smoothie board or software, I think.

Thoughts anyone??

Thanks
Phil

Can you try slicing the file with Slic3r and telling us if it still has problems ?

Thanks.

Hi Arthur,

thank you for responding.

Yes, I will slice with slic3r and copy it over. Then I will run it with PuTTY.

I will prob not be able to get to it tonight, may not be until Thursday night.

Thanks
Phil
