First cut on Shapeoko 2 with the spindle mounted in the provided mount. I think a better mount is in order though.
That’s pretty look! What software r u using Bruce?
I took a picture (jpg) and used trace in inkscape, then sent the svg file to the Easel.com site, which created the gcode.
Ah look! I’ve been thinking about getting meshcam… Have u tried it?
I purchased Vectric Cut2D and Cambam presently, I have heard good things about Meshcam though, but have not tried it myself.
I was wondering if it’s possible to engrave and then cut with Shapeoko? I want to engrave my logo on some parts, but not sure if it’s doable… Thanks!
I do believe you can, but I am guessing you will have to do it part by part. I think you would use a vbit and a text box to create the engraving, then change bits and do the cutting in seperate runs, but with matching profiles?
Ha! I’m too green to understand CNC language lol but I’ll b bugging u guys once I’m ready for sure
Wow…so they give the same metal straps even if you order that expensive spindle. I am a bit surprised.
@NathanielStenzel same here…
Well, I guess on the plus side you could cut some board as a clamp.
yes, I am designing one now!
yeah… but i sure would like to save that time…
ill buy one from u Bruce!
I’ll post the DXF and you will be able to cut it for free!
Ur a Good Man Bruce!
One quick question, how do you turn on the spindle? I purchase the upgrade kid, and it came with a speed controller, but when i turn the speed controller knob, it won’t spin… do i need to send that command from grbl?? Thanks!
The spindle is direct powered from the power supply through the speed controller. You might need to double check your connections. I had to go back and redo mine to get it right. I had incorrectly connected the power in.
Hi Bruce! I got it figured out… There is a yellow jumper that goes on the speed controller, I had that jumper switch to the wrong spot, as soon as I put it back to the original spot it work OK
Now I’m trying to figure out how to set the zero position and height… Is the zero set any where I put it and then zero from GRBL? How do I know what’s the right height so I don’t brake bits?
Thanks for ur help!
Are you using the gcode sender? If so, you can turn off the power to the grbl, manually set all the axis where you want them, then turn it back on and under the motor control tab, use the set zero button. Be careful though, because the button under it will try to send it to machine zero if you hit that by mistake. You might want to try out the http://easel.com program, it let’s you set zero and start from a known spot too.
Ah! Thanks! Makes sense, more likely I’ll be using easel to cut my parts
thanks Bruce!
