First print with CF filled nylon.

First print with CF filled nylon. Hopefully it’s significantly stronger than current CF filled filaments. Looks promising and is printing cleanly.

Also got some glass-filled nylon to try out as well.

what nozzle size are you using to create a mechanically strong part?
For me keeping the material and Changing to a very large nozzle for low detail, strong, functional parts made a hell of a difference.

I guess the grass filled one is superior lightweight with hollow glass spheres? That’s a common filler for cold casting to create light parts.

This is just 0.4mm because it’s the only machine that had a hardened nozzle on it already. I use 0.8 or 1.0mm nozzles when I need crazy strong parts, and yes, it makes a huge difference

Came out beautifully! Awesome surface finish and feels very strong. Graphics guy is taking some macro shots that I’ll post later today.

Very promising for people looking for strong functional parts.

CF filled or glass filled parts aren’t stronger, actually a lot of the data I’ve seen shows they’re slightly weaker.

They’re not any stronger because the fibers don’t cross the layer boundaries, which is the weakest part. They are definitely stiffer though, up to 2x stiffer. This may be whats giving you the impression that they’re stronger.

That’s definitely the case in my experience with the PET and PLA CF filaments. However, PET and PLA aren’t nearly as strong/durable as nylon. The CF adds stiffness/rigidity to the nylon without seeming to weaken it a whole lot.

We’ll be comparing it to a MarkForged printed carabiner with continuous strands of CF to see how well it holds up.

And they may form a more durable surface with CF.
