Fischertechnik announced a 3D printer kit in january. The printer will be avaible in the next days, but the company already send me one of the first kits for a review. Here is a first look at the printer.

Oh wow, that thing is nuts. Chain and sprocket drive? Plastic screws? Sheesh. Looks cool though.

That’s certainly a unique kit.
I love fischer technik since I was a kid and I can make a lot with it. I love the ‘analogness’ of it compared to lego-technic. A 3D printer is a complex machine and the kit is very nice to study it. I question the stability and reproducability, though.
Agreed. It looks like it was designed to be an educational product. I think there’s a place for it in the market, I just wouldn’t expect more of it beyond that. I’m trying to avoid the appearance of disparaging what sounds like an excellent construction system, but I don’t think it can match the rigidity of a frame & mechanism designed for the purpose.
