Flexible tire with ABS rim.

Flexible tire with ABS rim. The tire has 2 perimeters with 10% 3D honeycomb infill. Print time was about 9 hours with an average speed of 50-60mm/s.

How did the connection between the two materials hold up? I had to design mechanical interlocking to make it stable since even 1/10mm difference on one of the axis prevented a solid connection between the two materials. I also tried overlapping geometry, but that did not work out all the time.

yes i also made a mechanical connection. but for 80% of the model, the lines are welded together.

Impressive. What flexible material did you use? That speed seems too fast for Ninjaflex to work well. I’ve been thinking about testing a Ninjaflex bond with PLA.

@Jeff_Parish It’s some no name TPE but it has similar characteristics as NinjaFlex. The speed wasn’t a problem

What (dual)hotend do you use? Could you tell me the toolchange settings for that? Nice work! Still tweaking my dualextruder to do that :wink:

@VolksTrieb It’s a dual X carriage system and im using 2x e3d v6. dual x cariage works really well with flexible - rigid combo because flexible materials ooze much more. While ABS is printing, the other hotend is parked and the nozzle blocked with a thin aluminum plate. Ideally you still want to purge the flexible material but in this case the blobs were on the inside of the tire.

@Primoz_Brglez ahh ok well thats good for noooze ^^

@Primoz_Brglez
Your setup sounds exactly like my DuoCube that i have in development. Do you have images? You can find some videos on my setup on my Youtube channel

@Bjorn_Marl Yes i already took a look at your videos :slight_smile: You can see some pictures of my printer in the custom built & reprap section or if you go to my profile. This is the 2nd dual x carriage printer i developed. The goal with this one was to make it more reliable, professional looking, enclosed and add a couple of features like a 7’’ touchscreen, wifi and a wide angle camera :slight_smile:

@Primoz_Brglez
Interesting. For me the goal was a true RepRap printer that can be modified and experimented on as easily as possible.

Sweet print

Nice print

Another example. A print order i recieved today.
