For all of those that salivated over the Simpson deltabot at the NY Makerfaire, GUS Simpson was just released by @Nicholas_Seward early this morning:

And what about the firmware? Is that located anywhere?

@ThantiK No firmware yet. Just a preprocessor. I forgot to upload it. It should be up later today.

Great! How much of plastic is required and what’s the print time of the complete set?

@Nicholas_Seward : Yes, a couple questions about the parts: how much plastic will it take (roughly) and what printer settings do you recommend for them? Wally was 0.3mm layer height and 15% infill with PLA. What is Simpson?

@Shane_Graber @Richard_Marko last I checked it is almost the same as Wally. I use the same settings for both. (Wally is under 1kg but not by much.)

Yeah, one messed up print on Wally and you’ll easily go over 1kg given the size of the parts! According to my sliced files, Wally took ~830 grams of PLA, and that’s with no print failures during a run.

@Nicholas_Seward : can you let us know how many of each part to print? If so, I can add renders to the RepRap Wiki for Simpson, like I did for Wally: http://reprap.org/wiki/Wally#Printed_Parts

@Shane_Graber 3 of the shoulders, motor arms, slave arms, eccentric stops, and plastic washers. 1 of everything else. Thanks!

@Nicholas_Seward : Awesome! I know what I’ll be updating tonight. :slight_smile:

@Shane_Graber 2 things. We should start a new GUS Simpson wiki page. Also, I used my reorient script so I am not sure if it messes with the cirality of the triangles. Let me know if anything looks off.

@Nicholas_Seward : the following part need re-oriented: “hub bottom.stl” Other than that, they all look good.

Question: parts starting with an underscore should NOT be printed, correct? Also, there’s a number of M-series screws, nuts, and washers that do NOT have a beginning underscore to their name in the STL directory.

Also there’s things like “_ARM BLANK.stl” and “_GEAR.stl” and assuming the underscore means to NOT print these, are they supposed to be printed or not?

@Shane_Graber You are right. Anything starting with a M or a “_” should not be printed. I will fix the hub bottom.

@Nicholas_Seward I assume 3 pulley.stl’s as well?

@Shane_Graber Correct.

@Nicholas_Seward Look this over and let me know if the numbers are correct: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/19570820/GUS%20Simpson/GUS%20Simpson.xls

@Shane_Graber looks great. It really is a small list of parts. Too bad they are so big.

dumb question, is there any pic of the GUS?, cant find any.
