For all you who print in nylon; what extruder gear do you use?

A big problem I have with nylon is that the extruder gear just can’t grip it properly. What system are you using? What gear and what system for tensioning it do you use?

Following thread.

I use an airtripper with mk7 hobbed pulley. No problems gripping.

I’ve made myself a hobbed M8 threaded rod about three years ago, it has a M5 hobbing going 'round just below where the M8 threading ends. Works perfectly for anything you throw at it (1.75 as well as 3mm), including Nylon, ABS, PC, Ninjaflex and so on. The threading is fairly sharp and will shred though filament if you tighten the idler too much; i guess some of the duller hob profiles won’t work as well for slippery nylon.
Other than that, it’s a pretty much stock Greg’s Wade extruder w/ guidler.

One of @Whosa_whatsis wicked sharp toothed extruder gears (check deezemaker site) fixed such issues with taulman bridge for me instantly

We do the same as @Thomas_Sanladerer with an M5 hob profile on an M8 bolt. No issues, and I’ve printed pretty much every material there is. Including Teflon/FEP, which is about as slippery as filament gets!

@Whosa_whatsis Tatsu gear is really impressive looking and we’re working on a nice drive hob that is somewhat similar. I’ve not used one of his, but they look really great.

Thanks for the replies. I can’t use Wade’s geared extruder with the hobbed bolt as I have a direct drive setup. But maybe I can use the same technique to make my own extruder gear.

I did buy a MK7 extruder gear, but I don’t really like the look of it.
