For some reason. My other post didn't go through.. anyway.

For some reason. My other post didn’t go through… anyway. This is my new print server and enclosure

i would have put the computer outside - printing creates some sort of dust which will eventually kill the fans in the computer. also heat from printer may not help in the case of long prints.

Computer is outside :slight_smile:

Plus. Enclosure only gets to 30c not actively heated…

What’s the box on the left?

@Adam it’s a space heater I’m planning on hacking to be controlled by a pid controller with thermal coupler

It did go through, but we have approval of all posts turned on.

ahhh, ic… thats probably best for taking care of spam

@Anthony_Djekic_twans I think me meant the Raspberry Pi. They like to thermal throttle, so it’s best to keep them outside of the enclosure and just route your cable through the wall of it.

@_Spice im not slicing from it though, i feel it would be ok, its doing great so far, my enclosure gets to 40 c tops.

Idk how i feel about that enclosure being made out of wood lol

@Cristian_Martinez what’s wrong with using wood?

Im paranoid about fires lol

@Cristian_Martinez I’ve been 3D printing for 3 years and experimented a lot. Closest I’ve been to a fire is burning out a molex connector. The plastic just melted a bit and interrupted the electrical connection.

I’m just over 5 years now, and ironically I’ve burned out a single Molex connector too. That’s not to say don’t be careful, just that something like this is much worse.

@Justin_Nesselrotte what the heck? Lol

I needed a part printed and the bed needed to be replaced so any draft of air messed it up. I put the printer on my coffee table to see if I could get a print. It surprisingly started to work, but then my ac turned on so I had to quickly cover the printer.

I once did ABS prints in a foam core enclosure, I cannot think of a more dangerous material. flammable plastic expanded foam with tons of air pockets and hydrocarbons, sandwiched between paper with glue which is also flammable. I watched it the entire time, holding a fire extinguisher, while playing https://youtu.be/2oct4huJkPg

@AlohaMilton I’m guessing you needed a box to keep internal temp up and all you had was foam core?
