Forgive me for asking a possibly super dumb question but I’m starting to get interested in 3d printing. I’m looking at the tevo tarantula with the large bed, auto leveler, and dual extruder as my first 3d printer…and to be clear…I have next to no experience in assembling something like this…on a scale of 1-10 how bad of an idea is this? And is soldering required for assembly? If this isn’t a good idea for me…can I get a few recommendations for better ideas. Thanks

The Tevo isn’t a bad option, but I’ve recommended the Anet A8 to a good amount of newbies and they have needed zero help getting it going. As for dual extrusion- that’s not something you should take on as a beginner. Get a single extruder printer working well and once you know what you are doing, re-evaluate if you really want a dual extruder.

Be warned though, those Far East printers frequently skimp on electronics quality. Shouldn’t need any soldering initially but definitely keep an eye on the connectors.

I had two employees that bought the A8… after working w us, they were thrown out. I agree it’s possible and fit them started but it wasn’t close to top tier experience. But yes, start w what you can afford! We do have the Smalls kit at $298 (15% off at midnight tonite)… an option and upgradable and open source!

@Brook_Drumm Not sure I’ll be able to pull the trigger this wknd, but for argument sake: Can the Small be ordered with a 0.25mm nozzle instead of the 0.4? And can the extruder, etc handle that? (Don’t know why not). I’m thinking the Smalls kit w/ 0.25mm nozzle would be a great little detail printer to supplement the other 2 Printrbots I have running…

Ha! I don’t see why not. Just email me if you do order and I’ll throw in a free .25 tip

Forget about the smalls sometimes. Very good option if you can live with the small bed, but then again @Brook_Drumm has a million upgrades coming out to fix that:-)

be weary of the far east kits in general. Printrbot makes some great US built product. I know from first hand use.

My Printrbot Maker Simple has been great! Even after hacking it up to a 200x200 (unheated) bed. And even my Frankenbot (important bits from a Printrbot kit) is starting to turn out acceptable prints with its 250x250x200 build area. So yes, the confidence is high that anything - even the kits - from Brook will be a quality product!

I will vouch for his integrity and customer service as well!

i recently got myself my first 3d printer Hellobeeprusa. And what i can say now is that get 3d printer that has lots of support forums (active).
Because you need them. Hellobeeprusa did not. So bad choice. Easy to get spare parts good active forums and popular model. That is my recommendation. Also good building manual. I don’t know if you have budget but if id would by 3d printer now i would go Orginal prusa i3.
