Fresh from the post office, my new Printrbot simple kit.
From notification of shipping to arrival it took only 5 days, USA to oz. Soon to start dipping my toes in the world of 3d printing.

Couple of additional pics now uploaded:

First thing to do, take inventory of all of the parts. Make sure you’re not missing anything.
Second, check out Brook Drumms videos. He has upgrades and assembly vids.

How long was the lead time?

@Steve_Kelly1 from the time I ordered, to the time it was shipped, looks like a little over a week.

I’ve had my Simple for a couple of weeks, so here are my (un-asked-for) tips:

  • 3D printing is not for the masses yet. Learn to enjoy the tinkering and modding.
  • The online assembly documentation for the Simple is weird; there seems to be two versions on the website. For instance, one showed a laser-cut wood part that was not included in my kit (not needed, either). Look around. Use common sense.
  • Be sure to tie down the linear bearings SUPER tight! I had to take mine apart and switch to less-stretchy zip ties. Once i did that, the accuracy and repeatability were much better.
  • Buy a piece of glass (I just bought window glass) for the bed. The wood is pretty flat, but it turns out that “pretty flat” isn’t good enough in the 3D printing world. Cover it with blue painter’s tape; works great for PLA.
  • Calibrate your firmware’s steps/mm for each axis. Start with your extruder. Use digital calipers (if you don’t have them yet, BUY THEM!) The defaults were 6% too high on mine, leading to over-extrusion.
  • Measure your filament. Mine was 5-6% larger than advertised, leading to over-extrusion.
  • I’m currently waiting on some 0.4mm drills or a new nozzle (whichever comes in the mail first) to fix a bad clog, so you may want to order one or both of those ahead of time.

My printrbot jr still stuck at Belgian customs… :frowning:
Glad to hear not all customs offices are that incompetent

Congrats, more pics!

Ha! I just looked at the extra pics. If you bought a roll of PLA, you ordered the same things I did!
