Fun project using free scans from NASA. (It’s our district namesake so I felt compelled)

I scaled the model up x1200 and cut it at 29mm using Slic3r. I did this so I can install the guts of a Unifi AP Pro inside and run the Ethernet through the top. I’ll hide the cable in plain sight as part of the parachutes. And glow-in-the-dark PLA… Because it’s fun!

Here’s the earlier “proof of concept” where I didn’t use supports on the “heat shield.” What a mess… But functional.

I’m surprised not a lot of people know about the files NASA puts up! They have some seriously cool stl files out there

Since I work at a school district I’ve been trying to find more “educational” objects. The Smithsonian, MOMA and the “Scan the world” project are also really great resources.

Wow, I just checked out the site, lots to choose from. Thanks for pointing this out guys!
