Gecko g540 on your ox?

Has anyone done this. What motors did you use and where did you get them? I been messing with tiny g and chilipeppr for about a year and I’m pretty impresses with it but I want something a little more stable and reliable. I really wanna get into doing some 3d work with this machine and I’m looking into a mach 3 and gecko setup.

Could anyone lead me in the right direction?

I have been using cncjs as it does not require internet connection and seams stable and many advance features https://github.com/cncjs/cncjs

Yes have the g540 with a smoothstepper so I can use Ethernet cable instead of serial port. Motors are 256, 23 but go bigger if making frame over a metre works really can’t fault it. You will need Mach 3 or 4 or equivalent run it. It won’t run chillypepper or linuxcnc. I went with Mach 3 as found 4 buggy at the time. My build is NeptunesOx on openbuilds. Cheers Peter

Where did you get the motors and everything and where should I get everything

I got mine from Peter Homann @ http://Homanndesign.com he is based in Australia and has the best design for G540 on his web site. His after sales service is brilliant.

Are you happy with the performance as compared to a tinyg
I built the ox from smw3d it is an openbuilds machine can’t remember which one. Big ox I know it’s called

I am very happy with the performance and is the best for the smaller type cnc machines

@Peter_Pollard cncjs can also use smoothie. I have considered using a smoothie on my Xcarve but have not pulled trigger. How have you liked the smoothie board?

@Peter_Hanse Hey Peter I haven’t used Smotthie board only Smotthstepper from http://warp9td.com but have heard good things about Smoothie Board

In theory you could also still use tinyg with the g540’s. There is s header which has the step/dir signals on it (one header for each axis)

Thats true Dave but does require a bit of advanced knowledge to get it working tight
