Getting some seriously good print quality out of the Smartrap.

Getting some seriously good print quality out of the Smartrap. This is with absolutely no tuning aside from changing the first layer starting height. That’s it!! The Z banding has gone completely away once I switched to the Toner Filament from Microcenter. It is made in the USA and is only $18.99 a kg!!!

Stay posted as I print the rest of the printer!!

Griffin

I gotcha. I’m just saying that there is a correlation between when I changed the filament and when the z banding went away.

I changed absolutely nothing else. It’s crazy!!

Something changed. I just got rid of my z branding by setting Z lift on retraction to 0 in S3D. This doesn’t cause branding in my other printers, but it does with the Da Vinci. Drove me crazy for a week until I figured it out. I came close to returning the Da Vinci.

The filament could have had a periodic change in diameter. You might be able to figure that out if the number of layers between oscillations decreases as the footprint of the object goes up.

Did the new extruder make a difference?

I would say it is slightly better with the new extruder but if you look close in the first picture you can see that these pieces were printed by the old bearing holder being pressed against the mk7 with a zip tie. The zip tie gave tension and was wrapped around the z smooth rod. I did this because my last extruder broke and this was the only way I could attempt to get a new one. It worked and is now printing really well!!
