Google has failed me:

Does anyone know of a good tutorial (or better, disk image) to run XBMC on a @BeagleBoard.org BeagleBone Black?

Also, can it play NetFlix?

Thank you!

I’m not sure a BBB is your best choice for XBMC, since as far as I know, it does not support Full HD on HDMI… Someone tell me I’m wrong please

i read is that it can do 720p with sound at best

some 720p. and the display is only hooked up via 565…

I’m sorry, but these comments are somewhat cryptic, which makes me think I’m treading new ground here.

By “do 720p” do you mean that XBMC can only decode and display 720p on the BBB because of performance reasons?

“Hooked up via 565” … I’m sorry, I have no clue what you mean. A quick search leads me to believe you might be referring to the RGB565 color mode.

Am I correct in thinking that it sounds like no one here (so far) has tried this?

Thank you.

Rob: I think you can run XBMC fine on the BBB, have you tried an ubuntu image and typed “apt-get install xbmc” ? As mentioned previously, the maximum screen resolution supported by the Beaglebone black is 720p, i.e. 1280x720 pixels. This is as far as I know a hardware limitation, not on the processor side but on the HDMI chip side. I was a bit surprised when I found out too.

@Edouard_Lafargue Indeed, I have not tried that. A 720p output will work fine for my purposes. Thank you.

the BBB cannot decode HD video, its not a good choice for a media player

Yeah, I was looking for answer for you all yesterday but I couldn’t find anything. The best I found was a POC for the original beagle bone on the beagle board website.
Like @Vladimir_Pantelic said… I think BBB is a poor choice due to hardware limitations

@Ryan_Standeven I really appreciate you taking the time on that. I posted this on my stream as well, and heard that it in the works, pending some legal release of info. I assume this is info on the GPU.

So, it’s In The Works™.

@Ryan_Standeven the GPU helps with 3D graphics but will not help with HD video decoding

here’s something I’m trying to find. How well does it do audio encoding?

@Ryan_Standeven with the audio cape, you have stereo line-in and out. Encoding audio is perfectly fine on the CPU…
