You need to take better care of your mill and vise. That is a lot of rust.
I agree Zews. I rubbed the surface rust off the vice and mill table after these shots were taken. Rubbed off with a soft cloth, the camera and flash made it look far worse than it actually was. We have had a very humid wet summer and the mill hadn’t been used for a few months, plus I have no way to control the humidity in my back shed. I have yet to find an oil that can be left on without surface rust forming as they all seem to break down over time unless I apply a coat of grease and clean it off before every use. As a rule I oil my lathe and mill after each use. You wouldn’t know of a tried and proved oil that would stop this would you?
