I think that is called “surfacing”, you can buy a table surfacing bit from Onsrud that lets you clean something like an inch at a time or more, depending on your collet size. Goes much faster. You should always surface your spoil board to ensure accurate cuts.

But that looks like some effective cutting! Is that Cherry or mahogany?
