how on earth is this DIY of any kind? You’re literally just buying a sheet of PEI and cutting it to size. There’s nothing DIY about it.

Also not all plastics will stick… Not even close

Don’t nylons have issues sticking on most pei? I can’t remember what type of filament but I remember it was similar to what taulman has

It’s mostly nylons that don’t stick. Then Elmer’s purple glue stick more than makes up for that. Pretty much any other kind of plastic seems to work fine.

@Steve_M how is that not DIY? I agree it’s not the most challenging 3D printer project I can imagine, but this could be a great introductory project for less experienced people that could give them more confidence about DIY (not to mention a heated bed). I know I’d feel a sense of accomplishment after making this. Being challenging shouldn’t be a requirement for being DIY or for sharing. Let’s support people who are sharing and supporting people at any skill level.

Regardless I hope it helps someone. Whether or not it meets anyone’s strict criteria of “DIY” isn’t exactly the topic  No point in arguing about something so trivial. This isn’t YouTube comments, ha!

@Chris_Garrett Hope I didn’t sound YouTube Comment crazy! Wasn’t aiming for adversarial, just supportive.

@Fred_Hamilton no quite the opposite, you sounded good, man

@Fred_Hamilton Because step1: buy PEI sheet, step2: buy glass pane, step3: cut to size… oh wow such DIY. I thought it was going to be telling us how to MAKE the PEI, not just how to go buy a bunch of stuff.

@Steve_M Good job it wasn’t an article on how to make a 3D printer – smelting the aluminium at home is pretty hairy stuff. Of course it’s DIY. Or do you make your own paint when doing a spot of DIY and painting your house?
