That’s the live touring rig; the performance in the video was done for a Dutch radio station. Turned out pretty well, didn’t it?
(In the end, the flickering problems were traced down to the MIDI interrupt interfering with FastLED’s timing. The current workaround works, but is a bit inelegant to my mind, I’ve been busy moving and settling in to my new job so I haven’t had time to look at it again. Most of the above programming was done by another friend of OIJ’s who’s (still) local to Amsterdam.)
I dunno about the diffuser, being able to see the bare LEDs was kind of part of the aesthetic. But doing it this way we always had the option of either buffing some scratches into the sticks or wrapping them in something.
