Got inspired by the awesome “Fifth Element” stones that @Jason_Clark did, and wanted to experiment with some finish techniques as well as printing them in one piece laying on their side (to make use of my newly extended PrintrBot bed).

This print was at 50% scale for the sake of speed, and as I’m quite lazy I painted it entirely with Rustoleum sprays from the Home Depot…but all in all I think it came out pretty well and has me thinking about doing a full run closer to full size (probably ~80% scale).

Here’s the Thingiverse page for anyone interested: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1012118

OMG this is beautiful thank you for the post just found my next set of prints! which paints did you use because this looks spot on and I want too get the same I assume a textured spray?

The base color is “Satin Nutmeg”, and then “Burnt Umber” and “Desert Bisque” texture sprays. I’ll add a picture of the cans to the post if you want to buy the same ones.

Most of the color is coming from the Nutmeg, the two texture sprays were put on very lightly. I sprayed it from like 2 feet away to just get a little touch on it (I didn’t want to much texture and lose the details).

@Aric_Norine No, that’s a bit of a mashup of my own design I suppose. I got one of the first test versions of the plastic extruder, and while I really liked the handle because it was comfortable to use, I wasn’t thrilled with using the printed adapter to mount it to the Simple.

So I’ve ended up using the bottom from the stock extruder and the handle from the plastic.

Though I may just print my own handle soon anyway, been looking at some different designs.

that looks cool as hell is it possible to mimic weathering for age?

No fan on my 13S, I read that it’s recommended, but I haven’t personally found a need for it. Even after several hours of printing, the cold zone of the 13S is still cool enough to touch.

As you say, the aluminum base of the extruder probably helps with that.
