Got my printrbot gear head up and running now,

Got my printrbot gear head up and running now, time to play and see how it behaves. Wish I had some ninjaflex to test!

Please keep updating on the performance! I really want to buy one of these puppies!

Any updates? My motor skipped like crazy halfway through the first layer. Running Rev F board so no pots to adjust and heat on motor seemed within the acceptable limits and no where near the temps i was getting when skipping occured on my other simple metal. Im at a point of cluelessness right now.

The first print went great, the filament was skipping on one layer but I fixed it on the fly by simply tightening the bolt. I wasnt sure how tight they should be so I figured I’d start a print and tweak as needed. I was worried the hot end would be too hot for my PLA extruder head to hold and it would get soft, but that wasn’t a problem on this 1 hour print. The fan kept it cool the entire run.

I can’t believe it worked on the first try, I didn’t even recalibrate the auto level probe or anything! I’m going to test it more in the next few days to see how it works with longer PLA prints. (That’s all I have.)

Not sure of the best way to change filament though. Any tips @Brook_Drumm ?

@Michael_Spano_Jr_Ama Dd you get yours working yet? I’ve learned that you can’t over tighten the bolts on the piece holding the gears, that definitely causes skipping. I also had to print the v0.02 gear head 3 times before I got a set of parts that I was really happy with. The first two were OK, but the bridging on the back wasn’t as clean as I wanted it to be and I had time to get it right since I didn’t have any hardware.

I printed a small vase this evening and have a raspberry pi case running right now. The gear head is still printing well. I haven’t tried changing filaments yet, maybe this weekend after I run a lot of things through this spool of raspberry printrbot PLA I have set up. One variable at a time.

I haven’t tried again yet. Im printing a new one in abs. Going to try again tonight. Everything was very tight on the one i have installed now which may be the issue.
