Got OctoPrint working tonight with a Raspberry PI 2.

Got OctoPrint working tonight with a Raspberry PI 2. It couldn’t have been more simple, even using a old creative usb webcam, hooked up the USB to the printer and just had to set the port via dropdown. Dead simple, if you were curious, just get a Pi 2 and setup.

Works great with the Monoprice Select Mini 3d.

I am having so much fun with this printer, I decided to print ‘useful’ parts today… so printed some parts for the printer ;)…

FUN!

You have to cross your fingers and hope your webcam is upported. It must have mjpeg support and even then it is not a sure thing.

I loved it - buy printdroid (play store), it connects to octoprint and it’s worth every cent.

I switched to astroprint a while back and only miss octoprint because printdroid doesn’t support astro (yet).

@Jared_Eldredge funny, I just downloaded the trial version to check it out. Looks very slick as well, but not sure I am going to open it up for outside my network, so not needed much at this time… ;)… good to hear thats the best app though…

@Rp_White_KF5VLM oh yeah, by far the best one. The dev is super responsive too. Twice i posted feature requests in my pay store reviews and both times the dev replied within a day or two with “good idea, I’ll do it” and sure enough with a week the feature was in.

That anecdotal story appears to be the norm with this guy. Fantastic. This was for the premium version, might have played a role

@Jared_Eldredge do you have a link to Printdroid as I can’t find it on the play store here in the uk. The only thing I can find is Printeroid but this doesn’t look like it’s what you are talking about.

@Andy_Shilling i sold should have verified the spelling earlier, sorry. It is “Printoid”.

Here it is:

Thank you I’ll go get it now and have a play.

I do not see the point in an app that connects to Octoprint unless you get annoyed with he browser disconnecting from Octoprint when you look at other webpages/apps or you do not have the Chrome browser on your Android device.

@NathanielStenzel

  • streaming video to a widget that’s always onscreen
  • much faster than loading up the web site each time
  • notifications and android wear support
  • generally a MUCH more satisfying experienve than usimg the website on a phone and a modestly better experience (in my opinion) than using the website on a full PC.

Give it a shot, i think you’ll like it.

I use astroprint now (generally much better than octoprint) and so desperately miss this app… the dev expects to support astroprint later this year so I’m holding on to astroprint for now.

@Jared_Eldredge $35 for an android tablet does the job for me. Browsers can be slow. That is true. Else than that, I have about everyhing you listed that I care about. I rarely boot up my laptop anymore. My android tablet is my main computer.

@NathanielStenzel of you haven’t tried a dedicated app then you don’t know what you are missing. Give the freebie version a shot.
