After some delay Josiah and I have completed our small QuadRap and are considering what kind of firmware to use ? Also. I suppose, we will drive 2 Y-axis motors on one controller. My Ramps 1.4 has two motor connections for the Z-axis. Use those for Y ? Can it supply the needed amperage? How to configure?
We will go to aluminum, plate for Z.

You can also slave E1 on ramps to duplicate any axis. A bit involved and not terribly easy to add a second endstop, but is possible.
I use repetier on my arduino / Ramps and it works fine as well. There is an online web based config tool which is quite handy. It’s well structured and in the end you can download a zip file with all files needed for the arduino environment. You just need to connect your board through usb and transfer the sw to the board.
If you configure to use the eeprom you can tweak some parameters like acceleration etc. directly from the repetier application on your pc.
